Separately, Republican senators are expressing support for a Department of Homeland Security proposal that would target sanctuary cities through federal immigration enforcement measures. The plan under consideration would involve pulling Customs and Border Protection officers from airports in sanctuary jurisdictions.

Senator Markwayne Mullin indicated that the sanctuary city proposal remains under active consideration by Republican leadership. The measure reflects ongoing GOP efforts to pressure local jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
