Trump Names Housing Official Bill Pulte as Acting Intelligence Director
President Trump appointed Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte as acting director of national intelligence to replace departing Tulsi Gabbard.

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has selected Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to serve as acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard who announced her resignation from the role.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, stating that Pulte "has deep experience managing the most sensitive matters in America, the safety and soundness of the Markets, and over 10 Trillion Dollars at Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac." The president noted that Pulte will maintain his current positions while serving in the intelligence role.
Pulte currently heads the Federal Housing Finance Agency and serves as chair of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He is also an heir to a home construction company fortune. According to Trump's statement, the agency has seen substantial growth under Pulte's leadership over the past year.
Gabbard, who had been serving as director of national intelligence, announced her resignation last month. According to reports, she cited her husband's cancer diagnosis as a factor in her decision to step down. Her departure is set to take effect on June 30.
The appointment represents a notable shift as Pulte moves from overseeing housing finance to leading the nation's intelligence community. The Director of National Intelligence serves as the principal intelligence advisor to the president and coordinates the activities of the U.S. intelligence community.
Trump's selection of Pulte continues a pattern of appointing allies to key positions within his administration. The move comes as other high-level officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, are scheduled to testify before Congress this week.
