Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) have raised counterintelligence concerns about a recent visit to Washington D.C. by a delegation of Russian State Duma members who are subject to U.S. sanctions.

The bipartisan pair of senators called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Friday to answer questions about the sanctioned Russian lawmakers' visit to the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Russian delegation was organized by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) last month. The visit has prompted questions about how sanctioned foreign officials were able to access the Capitol and meet with U.S. officials.

Wicker and Shaheen's inquiry reflects broader congressional oversight concerns about potential security risks posed by meetings between U.S. officials and foreign representatives who are under economic sanctions. The senators are seeking clarification from the State and Treasury departments about the circumstances surrounding the visit.
