The United Arab Emirates condemned a drone attack that targeted its consulate in Erbil, the capital of Iraq's Kurdistan Region, according to UAE officials.

The attack resulted in a fire in the zone where the consulate is located, which also houses an oil refinery, according to UAE statements. The extent of damage to the consulate building itself was not immediately clear.

No group has claimed responsibility for the drone strike, and Iraqi authorities have not yet released details about the incident or any investigation into the attack.

Erbil, which serves as the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government, hosts numerous diplomatic missions and international organizations. The city has previously experienced security incidents, including rocket and drone attacks targeting various facilities.

The UAE maintains diplomatic relations with Iraq and has business interests in the Kurdistan Region. The attack comes amid ongoing regional tensions that have occasionally spilled over into Iraqi territory.
