Trump Holds Separate Calls with Putin and Zelenskyy Amid Stalled Ukraine Peace Efforts
President-elect Trump spoke with both Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in separate calls discussing potential Ukraine conflict resolution.

President-elect Donald Trump conducted separate phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict remain stalled.
According to a Kremlin adviser, Trump told Putin during their call that he is ready to help bring an end to the Ukraine conflict. The conversation comes as Trump has previously indicated he aims to quickly resolve the war after taking office.
In a separate call with Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president congratulated Trump and the two leaders discussed peace talks and ongoing efforts to end the conflict. Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump on a recent birthday during their conversation.
The calls occurred ahead of the G7 Summit, where Trump and Zelenskyy have agreed to meet for further discussions on peace efforts. The summit is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
Despite these diplomatic contacts, formal peace talks between Russia and Ukraine remain on hold. The conflict, which began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has resulted in significant casualties and displacement while reshaping geopolitical relationships globally.
Trump's engagement with both leaders signals his intention to play an active role in attempting to broker a resolution to the conflict once he assumes the presidency.
