Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden was arrested early Saturday morning in Houston on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of weapons, according to court documents and police records.
The 11-time NBA All-Star was stopped by police in downtown Houston just before 4 a.m. while driving his Mercedes with four other passengers. Court records indicate that when Harden pulled up behind another vehicle, an officer observed a handgun in the car.
According to police reports, the handgun was visible in plain view and was not secured in a holster. One source indicated the weapon was located in the cup holder of Harden's vehicle.
Harden was taken into custody in Harris County and later released on a $100 bond. The charge against the former NBA MVP is classified as a misdemeanor violation.
The incident occurred during the NBA offseason. Harden, who has played for several teams during his career including the Houston Rockets, recently joined the Cleveland Cavaliers organization.
