Separately, the Justice Department has already opened an investigation this year into Walz over separate allegations related to immigration enforcement. The investigation centers on claims that the Democratic governor may have helped impede federal immigration enforcement efforts.

The timing of these developments comes as Walz, who served as Kamala Harris's running mate in the 2024 presidential election, remains a prominent Democratic figure following the campaign.
