Ukrainian Forces Strike Russian Oil Facilities, Disrupt Rail Transport
Ukraine targeted oil infrastructure in Russia and occupied Crimea while Russia launched 155 drones at Ukrainian targets in overnight attacks.
Ukrainian forces struck multiple oil facilities in Russia and Russian-occupied territories overnight Monday, targeting key energy infrastructure as part of ongoing military operations aimed at disrupting Russian supply lines.
Russian defense officials reported intercepting 310 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including areas around Moscow, western and southwestern Russia, Crimea, and over the Black and Azov Seas. In response, Russia launched 155 drones at Ukrainian targets, with Ukrainian air defenses shooting down or suppressing 124 of them.
Ukraine's General Staff confirmed strikes on the Grushovaya oil transshipment base near Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai region, described as one of southern Russia's largest hubs for oil and petroleum products. Russian regional authorities acknowledged the attack sparked a fire at the facility, deploying 130 rescue workers and 39 pieces of equipment to extinguish the blaze. No casualties were reported at the site.
Additional Ukrainian strikes targeted the Krasny Yar facility in Russia's Volgograd region, causing another fire. In occupied Crimea, Ukrainian forces hit the Semykolodezkaya oil base and an oil depot near Feodosia, both used for storing fuel supplies for Russian military operations according to Ukrainian officials.
A separate Ukrainian drone attack struck a passenger train traveling from Moscow to Simferopol in occupied Crimea, killing the driver's assistant and injuring the driver. No passengers were reported hurt in the incident. Russian authorities subsequently halted all passenger rail traffic in Crimea and provided replacement bus transportation for stranded travelers.
The overnight attacks represent part of Ukraine's broader strategy to target Russian energy infrastructure and supply chains supporting military operations, while Russia continues its drone campaign against Ukrainian territory.
