NASA has announced a partnership with Italian luxury fashion house Prada and Houston-based space infrastructure company Axiom Space to develop specialized clothing for upcoming lunar missions. The collaboration focuses on creating advanced spacesuits and undergarments for astronauts returning to the Moon.

The partnership has produced the Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit, designed for use during the Artemis IV mission currently scheduled for 2028. This mission is part of NASA's broader Artemis program aimed at returning humans to the lunar surface.

A key component of the collaboration is the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), which serves as the base layer worn underneath the main spacesuit. The body-hugging undergarment features ventilation tubes knitted directly into the fabric, providing essential temperature regulation and air circulation for astronauts during lunar operations.

The LCVG represents a critical piece of life support equipment, designed to maintain astronaut comfort and safety during extended periods of spacewalk activity on the Moon's surface. The garment's integrated cooling and ventilation system helps manage the extreme temperature variations astronauts will encounter during lunar missions.

This partnership marks an expansion of luxury brands into the aerospace industry, with Prada bringing its expertise in high-performance materials and manufacturing to space exploration. Axiom Space, which specializes in space infrastructure development, serves as the primary contractor for the spacesuit development program.
