Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Will Feature Replaceable Battery in EU to Meet New Regulations
Nintendo announced plans to offer Switch 2 models with user-replaceable batteries in the European Union to comply with upcoming regulations.

Nintendo has confirmed it will manufacture versions of its upcoming Switch 2 gaming console with replaceable batteries for the European Union market to comply with new regulatory requirements.
The gaming company announced on its website that it is implementing measures to meet obligations under a new EU regulation set to take effect on February 18, 2027. The regulation will require certain electronic devices to feature batteries that consumers can easily replace without specialized tools or technical expertise.
The Switch 2, Nintendo's highly anticipated successor to its popular hybrid gaming console, has not yet received an official release date. However, the company's advance preparation for EU compliance suggests the new console will launch before the 2027 regulatory deadline.
The current Nintendo Switch models do not feature user-replaceable batteries, requiring professional service or voiding warranties for battery replacement. The EU's new battery regulation aims to reduce electronic waste and extend device lifespans by making battery replacement more accessible to consumers.
Nintendo has not specified whether the replaceable battery feature will be available in Switch 2 models sold outside the European Union or if it will be limited to EU-specific versions of the console.
