Two California House races advance to November general election matchups
Republican incumbents Ken Calvert and Young Kim will face off in CA-40, while Democrat Hilda Solis and Republican Pedro Casas advanced in CA-38.

Two California congressional districts have set their November general election matchups following Tuesday's primary results, including an unusual incumbent-versus-incumbent race.
In California's 40th Congressional District, Republican Representatives Ken Calvert and Young Kim will face each other in November after both advanced from a five-candidate primary field. Calvert led with 36.2 percent of the vote, while Kim secured her spot with 21.7 percent as of Wednesday morning, according to Decision Desk HQ.
The matchup between two sitting Republican House members is uncommon and resulted from California's redistricting process, which can force incumbents into the same district. Both representatives currently serve in Congress but will compete against each other for a single seat.
Meanwhile, in California's 38th Congressional District, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis and psychologist Pedro Casas advanced to the general election. Solis, a Democrat, led the four-candidate field with 44.4 percent of the vote, while Casas, a Republican, secured the second position to advance.
The 38th District race represents a more traditional party-versus-party contest, with election analysts rating the seat as favoring Democrats in November. California uses a top-two primary system where the two highest vote-getters advance regardless of party affiliation.
