President Donald Trump announced he will serve as the headlining act for America's 250th anniversary celebrations after nearly all scheduled musical performers withdrew from a concert series marking the milestone. The performers reportedly pulled out due to concerns the event had become too closely associated with Trump.

The Great American State Fair, beginning June 25, was originally planned to feature concerts but will now be kicked off by a Trump rally. The president has also scheduled a UFC bout at the White House on June 14 to mark his 80th birthday, which he has positioned as part of the anniversary festivities.

Trump has embraced an extensive hosting role since returning to the White House, building a patio area similar to one at his Mar-a-Lago estate and frequently traveling to his properties for fundraisers and gatherings. The administration has also incorporated Trump's image into anniversary commemorations, including State Department passports featuring his picture and a proposed $250 bill with his likeness.

For the upcoming World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, Trump created and leads a federal task force for the tournament. He received a peace prize from FIFA and has said he will present the tournament's golden trophy to the winning team. Trump also oversaw the tournament's draw at the Kennedy Center in December.

Two separate organizations are coordinating anniversary events: the congressionally-chartered America250 and the Trump administration's Freedom 250, which has created some confusion about planning responsibilities. America250 aims to inspire reflection on American history and strengthen democratic commitment, while the Trump administration has emphasized correcting what it calls revisionist historical narratives.

Historically, presidents have played prominent roles in major anniversary celebrations, with Gerald Ford leading extensive Bicentennial events in 1976 and Ulysses Grant opening the Centennial Exposition in 1876. However, Trump's approach involves more direct personal branding and self-promotion than previous presidential anniversary roles.
