Rights groups file lawsuit over conditions at largest US immigration detention center
Legal organizations filed a class action lawsuit against ICE alleging poor conditions at Camp East Montana detention facility in Texas.

Rights organizations filed a class action lawsuit Saturday against Immigration and Customs Enforcement over alleged poor conditions at the largest immigration detention facility in the United States.
The lawsuit targets Camp East Montana, a detention center in Texas, and names four detainees as plaintiffs representing themselves and others currently or potentially held at the facility. The legal action represents the first lawsuit specifically addressing conditions at this particular detention center.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege multiple violations including inadequate medical and mental health care, inappropriate use of force by staff, and frequent placement of detainees in solitary confinement. The lawsuit also cites concerns about food quality and safety, sanitary conditions, and alleged sexual harassment by guards.
The legal organizations filing the suit claim these conditions violate the human and constitutional rights of immigration detainees. The lawsuit describes outbreaks of disease and unsanitary living conditions as among the issues facing those held at the facility.
The class action seeks to represent all current detainees at Camp East Montana as well as those who may be detained there in the future. ICE has not yet responded to the allegations contained in the lawsuit.
