Thames Water reported deploying an extra billion liters of water across London and the South East over the recent bank holiday weekend, compared to the same weekend in 2025, as the utility company responded to increased demand during hot weather.

The water company has issued guidance asking customers to stop using hosepipes amid concerns about potential shortages following what it described as a record-breaking heatwave.

The surge in water usage reflects heightened demand during periods of extreme heat, when residents typically increase consumption for activities such as garden watering, pool filling, and general cooling purposes.
