During the same podcast appearance, Gingrich reflected on the 1998 impeachment of President Bill Clinton, which occurred during Gingrich's tenure as House Speaker. He told Devine that he now believes "it was a mistake" to impeach Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Gingrich explained his reasoning for this assessment, stating "the real problem wasn't Lewinsky," though he did not elaborate on what he considered the actual issues to be during that period. The impeachment proceedings against Clinton ultimately resulted in his acquittal by the Senate in 1999.
