The New York Knicks advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after completing a 4-0 sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals on Monday night.
Guard Jalen Brunson was named Eastern Conference finals MVP following the series victory. The award was presented by Knicks legend Walt Frazier, with former star Patrick Ewing also present for the ceremony.
The Knicks' playoff run has been dominant throughout the Eastern Conference. After defeating the Atlanta Hawks 4-2 in the first round, New York swept both the Philadelphia 76ers in the conference semifinals and Cleveland in the finals.
New York will face either the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. The Western Conference finals between those teams is currently tied 2-2, with Game 5 scheduled for Tuesday night.
The Knicks are seeking their first NBA championship since 1973. Their last Finals appearance came in 1999, making this their first return to the championship series in 24 years.
