Republican Senator Suggests Stefanik as Potential DNI Replacement for Gabbard
Sen. Jim Banks floated Rep. Elise Stefanik as a possible successor to Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

Sen. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) suggested Friday that Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) could serve as a potential replacement for Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
Banks expressed confidence that Stefanik would face few obstacles in the Senate confirmation process. "Stefanik would make a great replacement for Tulsi as DNI. Easily confirmable too," Banks wrote.
The suggestion comes amid speculation about potential changes in the intelligence leadership position. Stefanik currently serves as a House Republican representative from New York.
Separately, reports indicate that a former CIA officer has been considered for intelligence positions, though the connection between various potential candidates remains unclear. The former officer has previously criticized diversity, equity and inclusion programs as creating a "toxic" culture.
No official announcement has been made regarding Gabbard's departure or her potential replacement. The Director of National Intelligence position requires Senate confirmation and oversees the U.S. intelligence community.
