An Indiana man is facing charges after allegedly killing his girlfriend and shooting two people who attempted to help her on Mother's Day, according to local authorities.

The incident began when the suspect allegedly dragged his girlfriend down a sidewalk while she screamed for help. Two individuals witnessed the assault and intervened to assist the woman, prosecutors said.

The suspect then allegedly opened fire, shooting both good Samaritans who had tried to help his girlfriend. One of those shot was a sheriff's deputy who had stopped to assist what appeared to be a stranded motorist situation, authorities reported.

The deputy was struck three times and was treated at a hospital emergency room, according to law enforcement officials. The condition of the second person who was shot has not been disclosed.

Following the shootings of the two individuals who tried to help, the suspect allegedly executed his girlfriend, according to the district attorney's office.

Authorities have not released the names of the suspect, victim, or those who were injured. The investigation into the Mother's Day incident remains ongoing.
