Texas storms and LaGuardia sinkhole disrupt air travel across US
Severe weather in Texas and infrastructure issues at LaGuardia Airport caused widespread flight cancellations and delays across the United States.

Severe storms moving across Texas have prompted hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, while a sinkhole at LaGuardia International Airport in New York has created additional air travel disruptions nationwide.
Nearly 150 flights were canceled or delayed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Wednesday, with approximately 700 flights delayed the previous day, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. The Federal Aviation Administration issued ground stops at both Dallas Fort Worth and Dallas Love Field airports as storms moved through the region.
The severe weather in Texas has triggered flash flood warnings and forced some school closures as the storm system continues to impact the state. Meanwhile, airport officials at LaGuardia reported that a sinkhole had opened on airport property, prompting runway closures and operational disruptions.
LaGuardia officials advised passengers to expect cancellations and delays as crews work to address the sinkhole issue. The airport has not provided a timeline for when normal operations might resume.
The disruptions come as the northeastern United States experiences extreme heat conditions, with temperatures breaking records in some areas before an expected cooldown. The combination of severe weather events and infrastructure issues has created widespread challenges for air travelers across multiple regions of the country.
