An explosion at a lumber mill in Searsmont, Maine injured at least 10 people on Monday morning, according to emergency responders.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber at approximately 10 a.m. The facility is located in Searsmont, about 95 miles from Portland.

Maine Governor Janet Mills said she had been briefed on the incident and urged residents to stay away from the area as emergency crews worked at the scene.

The cause of the explosion has not been determined. No information was immediately available about the severity of the injuries or whether any workers remained unaccounted for.

Local emergency responders continue to manage the situation at the lumber facility.
