OpenAI Partners with Plaid to Enable ChatGPT Bank Account Access
OpenAI announced a partnership with Plaid allowing ChatGPT users to connect bank accounts for personalized financial guidance through the AI chatbot.

OpenAI announced Friday a new partnership with financial technology company Plaid that will allow ChatGPT users to connect their bank accounts directly to the AI chatbot for personalized financial guidance. The feature, currently in preview, enables users to securely link their financial accounts through Plaid's platform, which serves as a bridge between banks and applications for over 12,000 financial institutions including Schwab and Fidelity.
Once users connect their accounts, they will have access to a dashboard displaying their portfolio performance, spending patterns, subscription services, and upcoming payment schedules. The integration aims to provide tailored financial advice and insights based on users' actual financial data rather than general guidance.
The announcement comes alongside a broader organizational restructuring at OpenAI, with company president Greg Brockman being named the official lead of all product development. According to an internal memo, OpenAI is consolidating various product areas as part of its strategy to focus heavily on AI agents this year, combining different products under unified leadership.
The financial integration represents OpenAI's latest move to expand ChatGPT's capabilities beyond text generation into more specialized domains. The partnership with Plaid, a established player in financial technology infrastructure, provides the technical foundation needed to securely handle sensitive banking information while maintaining user privacy and security standards required for financial applications.
