WNBA Approves Connecticut Sun Sale, Team to Relocate to Houston in 2027
The WNBA has approved the Fertitta family's $300 million purchase of the Connecticut Sun, with the team set to move to Houston in 2027.

The Women's National Basketball Association has approved the sale of the Connecticut Sun to the Fertitta family for $300 million, with the franchise scheduled to relocate to Houston in 2027.
The Fertitta family, led by Tilman Fertitta who also owns the NBA's Houston Rockets, reached the purchase agreement in March. The deal marks one of the largest transactions in WNBA history.
The Connecticut Sun, currently based in Uncasville, Connecticut, will continue operations at their current location through the conclusion of the 2026 season. The relocation will bring professional women's basketball back to Houston for the first time since the Houston Comets folded in 2008.
The Comets were one of the WNBA's original franchises and won the league's first four championships from 1997 to 2000. Houston has been without a WNBA team for nearly two decades since the franchise ceased operations.
The Sun have been a competitive franchise in recent years, making multiple playoff appearances. The team's relocation represents part of the WNBA's ongoing expansion and reorganization as the league continues to grow in popularity and market value.
