Florida Attorney General Subpoenas NFL Records on Diversity Hiring Practices
Florida's attorney general has issued a subpoena demanding NFL records on the Rooney Rule and diversity, equity and inclusion programs by June 12.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has issued a subpoena to the National Football League demanding records related to the league's diversity hiring practices, including information about the Rooney Rule and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.
The subpoena requires the NFL to provide the requested documents by June 12 as part of what the attorney general's office has described as a new probe into these practices.
The Rooney Rule, implemented by the NFL in 2003 and subsequently expanded, requires teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operations positions. The rule was named after former Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who chaired the league's diversity committee.
The investigation appears to be part of broader scrutiny of DEI programs by some state officials. Florida has been among the states that have taken action against diversity programs in various contexts, including in higher education and corporate settings.
The NFL has not yet publicly responded to the subpoena. The league has previously defended its diversity initiatives as necessary to address historical underrepresentation in leadership positions across the organization.
