Michael O'Neill Declines Permanent Blackburn Role to Continue as Northern Ireland Manager
Michael O'Neill will not take the Blackburn Rovers job permanently and will focus solely on his Northern Ireland managerial duties.
Michael O'Neill has decided not to continue as manager of Blackburn Rovers on a permanent basis, opting instead to focus exclusively on his role as Northern Ireland national team manager.
Blackburn Rovers confirmed that O'Neill will not remain with the Championship club beyond his interim appointment. The Northern Ireland manager had taken over at Ewood Park in February following the departure of Valérien Ismaël.
O'Neill's temporary stint with Blackburn came while he maintained his primary position as Northern Ireland manager, a role he has held since 2011. The dual responsibilities required him to balance club and international duties during his time with the Lancashire-based team.
The decision means O'Neill will now concentrate fully on his international management role with Northern Ireland. Blackburn Rovers will need to identify and appoint a new permanent manager as they continue their Championship campaign.
O'Neill's tenure as Northern Ireland manager has spanned over a decade, during which he has overseen the team's participation in major tournaments and worked to develop the national team program.
