Separately, the daughter of a detained Chinese pastor said she has hope after learning that Trump may raise her father's case with Xi Jinping at their upcoming summit. The pastor's detention is part of broader restrictions on religious activities in China.

According to family members, multiple Americans and others are currently imprisoned in China on various charges. The daughter of the jailed Christian pastor told The New York Post that this president has "a remarkable way of doing things that most people say are impossible."

The meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping is expected to cover several contentious issues between the two nations, with Taiwan anticipated to be a key topic of discussion. The families are hoping that prisoner releases may also be addressed during the high-level diplomatic encounter.
