Russia has launched the first 16 satellites of its Rassvet satellite internet constellation, marking the beginning of the country's effort to build a domestic alternative to services like Starlink.

The Rassvet project represents Russia's attempt to establish its own satellite-based internet infrastructure that would provide coverage across the entire country. The network is designed to offer broadband internet access to remote and underserved regions of Russia through a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites.

According to project plans, the Rassvet constellation aims to achieve complete coverage of Russian territory by 2030. The system would compete with existing satellite internet services while giving Russia greater control over its communications infrastructure.
