A former FedEx delivery driver was sentenced to death Tuesday for the kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Athena Strand in Texas.

Tanner Horner received the death penalty from a Tarrant County jury after pleading guilty to the 2022 killing. The case involved the kidnapping and murder of the young girl.

Horner had worked as a delivery driver for FedEx at the time of the crime. He entered a guilty plea to the charges against him.

The Tarrant County jury deliberated on the sentence before ultimately deciding on capital punishment for Horner's crimes.

The case drew significant attention as it involved the death of a young child. Athena Strand was seven years old at the time of her death in 2022.
