The State Department plans to issue a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports featuring President Donald Trump's portrait to commemorate the country's 250th anniversary of independence in July.

According to department officials, the limited-edition passports will display Trump's photograph on the inside cover, surrounded by text from the Declaration of Independence and U.S. flag imagery. His signature will appear rendered in gold. A separate page will feature the historic painting of the founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed the new design plans to multiple news outlets. The special passports are part of a broader series of new passport designs being rolled out to mark America's semiquicentennial celebration.

The announcement comes as the government examines ways to commemorate the historic milestone. The 250th anniversary of American independence falls on July 4, 2026, though the special passports are expected to be released this summer.

Meanwhile, separately, Greg Hogan has been appointed to oversee Login.gov, the government's digital identity platform. The platform is being expanded to potentially integrate driver's license and passport information as part of broader digital identity initiatives.
