New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel announced he will seek counseling and will not be with the team for day three of the NFL draft on Saturday, following the publication of photos showing him with longtime NFL reporter Dianna Russini at an Arizona resort.

The photos, which were published earlier this month, showed Vrabel and Russini holding hands at the resort. The images prompted widespread discussion across NFL media and fan communities.

Vrabel addressed the situation in a statement Wednesday night, saying he made a commitment to provide the best version of himself to his family, organization, and team. "In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counseling, starting this weekend," Vrabel said, according to ESPN.

The Patriots coach characterized his decision as something he had given considerable thought to and noted it was advice he would give to a player in a similar situation. He emphasized that seeking counseling was part of his effort to meet his commitments to those around him.

The NFL is not conducting an investigation into the matter, according to reports. Day three of the NFL draft, which Vrabel will miss, includes rounds four through seven and is scheduled for Saturday.

Vrabel was hired as the Patriots' head coach earlier this year after spending previous seasons as head coach of the Tennessee Titans.
