Trump Orders Pay for All DHS Employees During Government Shutdown
President Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security to pay all employees during the partial government shutdown.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday directing the Department of Homeland Security to pay all agency employees during the ongoing partial government shutdown, which has entered its 49th day as the longest in U.S. history.
The executive order, titled "Liberating the Department of Homeland Security From the Democrat-Caused Shutdown," instructs Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to "use funds that have a reasonable and logical nexus to the functions of DHS" to compensate "each and every employee of DHS."
The order follows a similar directive Trump issued last week specifically targeting Transportation Security Administration agents, ensuring they receive pay during the shutdown. The TSA falls under the Department of Homeland Security's umbrella.
The partial government shutdown has affected multiple federal agencies and departments, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal workers without pay. Trump's latest order expands payment protections to cover all DHS personnel, not just TSA workers.
The White House characterized the order as directing back pay for all homeland security employees affected by the shutdown. The order requires DHS leadership to identify available funding sources within the department's existing budget authority to facilitate the payments.
