OpenAI Acquires Tech Podcast TBPN as AI Impact on Students and Healthcare Grows
OpenAI purchased tech talk show TBPN while nearly half of college students consider changing majors due to AI's workforce impact.

OpenAI has acquired TBPN, a popular online tech talk show that frequently interviews artificial intelligence executives and other technology leaders. The show broadcasts live weekdays at 2 PM PT, often running for three hours, and has featured guests including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and executives from Meta, Microsoft, Palantir, and Andreessen Horowitz.
Meanwhile, artificial intelligence's growing influence is prompting significant consideration among college students about their academic futures. A Lumina Foundation-Gallup survey released Thursday found that 47 percent of currently enrolled college students have thought about switching majors "a great deal" or a "fair amount" due to AI's potential impact on their chosen fields.
In the healthcare sector, some individuals with chronic illnesses are turning to AI chatbots for medical guidance, seeking diagnoses or symptom relief through these digital tools. This trend reflects the expanding role of AI in personal healthcare decisions.
However, regulatory challenges remain significant for AI health applications. California-based startup Kintsugi, which spent seven years developing AI technology to detect depression and anxiety from speech patterns, announced it is shutting down after failing to secure FDA clearance in time. The company plans to release most of its technology as open-source software.
The developments come as major tech companies continue investing heavily in AI capabilities. Microsoft has announced plans to create large, cutting-edge AI models by 2027, signaling continued industry momentum in advancing artificial intelligence technologies across multiple sectors.
