AI Companies Face Service Disruptions as DeepSeek Reports Outage, OpenAI Shuts Down Sora
DeepSeek experienced hours-long service disruptions while OpenAI discontinued its Sora video generation tool after six months.

Two major artificial intelligence companies experienced significant service issues this week, highlighting ongoing challenges in the rapidly evolving AI sector.
DeepSeek, the Chinese AI company, reported investigating a multi-hour outage after users experienced widespread errors accessing its services. The company acknowledged the disruption and stated it was working to identify the root cause of the technical problems that prevented users from accessing its AI tools.
Separately, OpenAI announced last week that it was shutting down Sora, its AI-powered video generation application, just six months after making it available to the public. The decision came unexpectedly given the relatively recent launch of the service.
Sora had allowed users to create AI-generated videos and notably included functionality for users to upload their own facial images. The tool was part of OpenAI's expanding suite of AI applications beyond its flagship ChatGPT platform.
Both incidents underscore the technical and operational challenges facing AI companies as they scale their services to accommodate growing user demand. The outages and service discontinuations reflect the experimental nature of many current AI offerings as companies navigate the balance between innovation and reliable service delivery.
