Rep. Himes Accuses Trump of Making False Claims About Iran Negotiations
House Intelligence Committee ranking member Jim Himes alleged President Trump falsely claimed to have conducted negotiations with Iran.
Representative Jim Himes, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, accused former President Donald Trump of making false statements about negotiations with Iran during an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday.
Himes told host Margaret Brennan that he believes Trump was "flat-out lying" about having conducted talks with Iran, suggesting the former president "made up" claims about negotiations.
The Connecticut congressman's comments came as he discussed ongoing tensions in the Middle East region. Himes serves as the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, which provides oversight of U.S. intelligence agencies and operations.
The allegations relate to statements Trump made last week regarding diplomatic engagement with Iran. Himes suggested Trump's claims about negotiations were fabricated in response to what he characterized as facing "financial cataclysm on Monday."
The appearance was part of a broader "Face the Nation" episode that also featured Border Czar Tom Homan discussing Department of Homeland Security funding issues as Congress has failed to reach agreement on DHS appropriations.
