Sen. John Fetterman has warned that TSA staffing losses pose security risks, particularly as the country prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Pennsylvania senator has called for an end to the shutdown, citing concerns that security preparations for the international event are falling significantly behind schedule.

White House border czar Tom Homan expressed uncertainty about whether federal immigration officers currently deployed at airports will be withdrawn once TSA workers receive their delayed paychecks. When asked about the potential redeployment, Homan said the decision would depend on how many TSA agents return to work and how many have permanently left their positions.

Separately, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Corey Lewandowski, who served as a special government employee and top adviser to former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, has departed from his position at the department following Noem's removal from office.
