Gulf Operations Continue Amid Regional Tensions as Saudi Pipeline Reaches Capacity
Maritime and energy operations in the Persian Gulf continue despite regional tensions, with Saudi Arabia's Hormuz-bypassing pipeline reaching full capacity.

Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, has reached its target capacity of 7 million barrels per day, according to Bloomberg News reports. The pipeline allows the kingdom to transport crude oil from its eastern fields to Red Sea ports, reducing dependence on the critical Hormuz shipping route.
Meanwhile, Emirates Global Aluminium reported significant damage to one of its smelter facilities following what the company described as Iranian strikes. The aluminum producer confirmed the incident but did not provide details about the extent of operations affected or casualties.
Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued despite regional tensions. Data shows two India-bound LPG tankers successfully exited the Persian Gulf through the strait, while other vessels have been navigating through Iranian territorial waters as part of normal transit procedures.
Operational disruptions have affected some regional facilities. Danish shipping giant Maersk suspended operations at Oman's Salalah port citing a security incident, though details of the specific threat were not disclosed. The port serves as a major transshipment hub for containers moving between Asia, Europe, and East Africa.
Separately, Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom reported that conditions at Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant continue to deteriorate, though the company did not specify the nature of the problems or their potential impact on the facility's operations.
The developments come as energy markets monitor potential supply disruptions in the region. A former BP executive warned that prolonged tensions could necessitate fuel conservation measures in some countries, including potential driving restrictions and reduced working schedules, though no such measures have been implemented.
