ICE Chief Says Agents Will Continue Wearing Masks Despite Democratic Opposition
Border czar Tom Homan stated ICE agents will maintain use of face coverings during operations, rejecting Democratic calls to remove masks.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents will continue wearing masks during operations despite calls from Democratic officials to remove face coverings, border czar Tom Homan said Wednesday.
Speaking on the "Cats & Cosby Show," Homan rejected Democratic pressure to have ICE agents give up masks during immigration enforcement activities. "You want us to give up masks, well, you know what? No we're not," Homan stated.
The comment comes as the Trump administration implements changes to immigration enforcement policies under new leadership. Markwayne Mullin, the new homeland security secretary, has indicated a different approach to operations, though the extent of potential changes remains unclear.
Meanwhile, immigration enforcement continues to face varying levels of cooperation at the state and local level. In Florida, some conservative sheriffs have expressed concerns about aggressive enforcement tactics embraced by Governor Ron DeSantis, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul has demonstrated willingness to negotiate with the Trump administration on immigration-related issues.
The debate over mask usage reflects broader tensions between federal immigration authorities and Democratic officials over enforcement methods and transparency during operations.
