Two separate AI developments emerge in military and healthcare sectors
A new book examines Pentagon AI warfare development while a healthcare company predicts widespread AI prescribing within five years.

Two distinct artificial intelligence developments have emerged in separate sectors, highlighting the technology's expanding role across military and healthcare applications.
Bloomberg journalist Katrina Manson has published a new book titled "Project Maven" that examines the Pentagon's efforts to develop AI warfare capabilities. According to NPR's coverage, the book discusses what is described as a secretive campaign to build America's AI military systems, focusing on the work of a Marine colonel involved in the initiative.
Separately, in the healthcare sector, predictions about AI's role in mental health treatment are emerging from industry executives. Arthur MacWaters, co-founder of Legion, a healthcare technology company, told NYNext that artificial intelligence will become ubiquitous in patient care within the next five years.
"Every patient is going to have AI working on their behalf in five years," MacWaters stated, specifically referencing the potential for AI systems to prescribe mental health medications.
The developments reflect broader trends in AI adoption across critical sectors, though the timeline and implementation details for both military and healthcare applications remain subjects of ongoing development and debate among industry experts.
