NAACP Names Former Biden DOJ Official Kristen Clarke as General Counsel
The NAACP has appointed Kristen Clarke, who previously served as head of civil rights at the Justice Department, as its new top lawyer.

The NAACP announced the appointment of Kristen Clarke as its new general counsel, bringing on a veteran civil rights attorney who previously served in the Biden administration.
Clarke most recently held the position of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice under President Biden. In that role, she oversaw the department's civil rights enforcement efforts across various areas including voting rights, housing discrimination, and police misconduct cases.
Prior to her government service, Clarke had extensive experience in civil rights law. She previously worked as president of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, where she focused on voting rights litigation and advocacy.
The appointment comes as the NAACP continues its legal and advocacy work on civil rights issues. As general counsel, Clarke will oversee the organization's legal strategy and litigation efforts.
Clarke's transition from the Justice Department to the NAACP represents a return to advocacy work in the civil rights sector, where she built her career before joining the Biden administration.
