Bipartisan Group Forms to Counter Trump Election Federalization Efforts
Former Democratic and Republican lawyers launch organization to preserve current election procedures amid Trump's calls to nationalize elections.

A bipartisan group of attorneys launched the Bipartisan American Election Project on Monday to counter President Trump's recent calls to federalize the nation's election system.
The organization is led by Bob Bauer, former counsel to the Democratic National Committee, and Ben Ginsberg, former counsel to the Republican National Committee. The two attorneys previously co-chaired the Presidential Commission on Election Administration in 2013.
The formation of the group comes in response to Trump's statements last month advocating for the nationalization of elections. The attorneys stated their organization is dedicated to preserving existing election procedures and processes.
The initiative represents a rare instance of former legal counsel from both major political parties joining forces on election-related issues. Bauer and Ginsberg bring extensive experience in election law from their respective roles advising the DNC and RNC.
The group's formation signals growing concern among some legal experts about potential changes to the current decentralized election system, where states and localities maintain primary responsibility for conducting elections.
