British police are investigating an apparent arson attack on four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer emergency service in London early Monday morning, treating the incident as an antisemitic hate crime.

Officers were called to Golders Green, a London neighborhood with a large Jewish population, at around 1:40 AM GMT after receiving reports of a fire. The ambulances belonged to Hatzola Northwest, a volunteer organization that provides emergency medical response services.

The London Fire Brigade reported that multiple gas cylinders on the vehicles exploded during the blaze, causing windows to break in an adjacent apartment building. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure, though no injuries were reported and the fire was brought under control.

Police Superintendent Sarah Jackson said the incident would cause "a great deal of community concern" and that officers remained on scene to carry out urgent inquiries. No arrests have been made, and police are conducting additional patrols in the area while searching for three suspects.

The attack comes amid a significant rise in antisemitic incidents across the United Kingdom since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in late 2023. The Community Security Trust, which works to protect the Jewish community, recorded 3,700 antisemitic incidents in 2024, up from 1,662 in 2022.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire while treating it as a targeted hate crime against the Jewish community.
