Army General Left Classified Ukraine Maps on Train, IG Report Finds
A Defense Department inspector general report found Major General Antonio Aguto improperly handled classified documents and engaged in alcohol overindulgence.

A U.S. Army general who oversaw operations related to Ukraine left classified maps on a train and engaged in excessive alcohol consumption, according to a Defense Department inspector general report.
Major General Antonio Aguto was found to have improperly handled classified documents in separate incidents, with the most serious breach involving classified Ukraine war maps left on a train. The documents were recovered 24 hours later by a train attendant, according to the inspector general's findings.
The incident has raised significant security concerns given the sensitive nature of the materials and the time they remained unaccounted for. The classified maps contained information related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In addition to the document handling violations, the inspector general report also cited Aguto for what it termed "overindulgence of alcohol" in separate incidents. The report did not provide specific details about the alcohol-related incidents.
The findings highlight potential security vulnerabilities in the handling of sensitive military intelligence. The Defense Department has not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding any disciplinary actions or policy changes resulting from the investigation.
