Police arrived at the school, located on Broadway near 14th Street, around 12:50 p.m. to arrest the teenager on an outstanding assault warrant. During the arrest, officers found the weapon concealed in the student's backpack.
The incident occurred during regular school hours at the Long Island City campus. Police sources confirmed the firearm was loaded at the time of discovery.
The arrest was part of a planned operation related to the existing assault charges against the minor. The teenager was wanted in connection with a previous assault case before the gun was discovered during Monday's arrest.
