Google Expands Gemini AI Integration Across Workspace Apps
Google announced new Gemini AI features for Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive that can create documents using data from multiple workspace applications.

Google announced a series of updates to integrate its Gemini AI assistant more deeply into Google Workspace applications, allowing the AI to pull information from multiple sources to automatically generate documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
The new "Help me create" feature in Google Docs enables users to generate formatted documents by describing their goals in natural language. Gemini can access content from Drive, Gmail, and Chat to create contextualized documents, such as drafting newsletters using meeting minutes and event lists stored across different applications.
Google Sheets receives what the company calls "Fill with Gemini" functionality, which can auto-populate tables with categorized data. According to Google's internal study of 95 participants, this feature performed data entry tasks 9 times faster than manual methods for 100-cell assignments. The feature can handle complex optimization problems like staff scheduling and budget planning.
In Google Slides, Gemini can now convert rough sketches into editable diagrams and generate slide layouts that match existing presentation themes. Google indicated that an upcoming feature will create entire presentations from single prompts based on reference documents.
Google Drive is being repositioned from passive storage to what Google terms an "active knowledge base." The service will now provide AI-generated summaries with citations at the top of search results and support complex queries across multiple files, such as comparing proposals or synthesizing research.
The features are available in beta for users with Google AI Pro subscriptions ($20 monthly) or higher, and for enterprise customers enrolled in Google's "Gemini Alpha" program. The rollout begins with English language support globally for core applications, with Drive updates initially limited to U.S. customers.
