A Bangladeshi man has been transported to Alaska to face federal charges for allegedly using social media platforms to exploit hundreds of teenage girls.

The defendant is accused of tricking teenage girls into sending him sexually explicit images through social media, then threatening to share those images with their friends and family members if the victims did not provide additional content.

A federal grand jury issued an indictment in 2022 charging the man with multiple offenses including child pornography, cyberstalking, and wire fraud. The charges stem from an investigation into his alleged online activities targeting minors.

The case involves allegations that the defendant used deceptive tactics on social media to initially gain the trust of teenage victims before coercing them into producing and sharing explicit material. Prosecutors allege he then used the threat of distributing these images to the victims' social circles as leverage to obtain more content.

The transportation to Alaska indicates the case will proceed in federal court there, where the defendant will face the charges brought by the grand jury. The case highlights ongoing concerns about online predators using social media platforms to target and exploit minors.
