Austin police released body camera footage Thursday showing the chaotic moments when a gunman opened fire outside a downtown bar early Sunday, killing three people and wounding 19 others in what the FBI is investigating as potential terrorism.

The video shows bargoers and pedestrians fleeing and taking cover as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne fired shots outside Buford's Backyard Beer Garden on Sixth Street, Austin's entertainment district. Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers arrived within 56 seconds of the first 911 call and shot and killed Diagne after he fired at them.

According to police, Diagne first fired shots from his SUV, then parked and emerged with a rifle to continue shooting. A law enforcement official told the Associated Press that Diagne was wearing clothes with an Iranian flag design and the words "Property of Allah." The shooting occurred a day after the U.S. and Israel launched an attack on Iran, though Davis declined to discuss possible motives as the investigation continues.

The three victims were identified as Jorge Pederson, 30, an aspiring mixed martial arts fighter who had recently moved to Texas from Minnesota; Savitha Shan, 21, a University of Texas business student; and Ryder Harrington, 19, who had attended Texas Tech University. One person remains in critical condition among the 19 people struck by gunfire.

Police said Diagne legally purchased the pistol and rifle used in the attack and was not previously on authorities' radar, though he was the subject of a mental health welfare check by another agency, possibly in 2022. Most victims were outside the bar, including one person waiting for a ride.
