Iranian women's national soccer team player Sara Didar fought back tears during a press conference Wednesday as she discussed the team's concerns for their families back home while competing in the Women's Asian Cup in Australia.

"Obviously we're all concerned and we're sad at what has happened to Iran and our families in Iran," Didar said through a translator during the news conference held on the eve of Iran's Group A match against Australia.

The emotional moment highlighted the personal impact on Iranian athletes competing abroad while their loved ones remain in their home country amid ongoing regional tensions. The Iranian women's team is currently participating in the Women's Asian Cup tournament being held in Australia.

Didar's comments came as the Iranian squad prepares for their Group A fixtures in the continental championship. The tournament continues with other Group A action, including South Korea's recent 3-0 victory over the Philippines on Thursday, with goals from Jeon Yu-gyeong, Park Soo-jeong, and Mun Eun-Ju giving the 2022 runners-up their second consecutive group stage win.
