A teenage student was arrested Wednesday morning after being found with a loaded handgun at Cascades High School on Manhattan's Lower East Side, according to police.

The incident occurred at 11:15 a.m. when a school safety officer discovered the weapon in the student's coat pocket during what appears to have been a routine security check. The teen was immediately taken into custody without incident.
