Former Louisiana Mayor Convicted of Sexual Assault of 16-Year-Old
Misty Roberts, 43, was found guilty of statutory rape and indecent behavior with a minor at a pool party while serving as mayor.

A former Louisiana mayor has been convicted on two felony charges related to the sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy at her home while she was still in office.
Misty Roberts, 43, was found guilty Tuesday by a jury in DeRidder of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, also known as statutory rape, and indecent behavior with a minor. The charges stem from an incident that occurred at a pool party at Roberts' residence in July 2024.
According to court testimony, the victim was a 16-year-old friend of Roberts' son. The victim's mother testified that her son was "disgusted" by the encounter. Court documents indicate that rumors of Roberts having inappropriate relationships with teenage boys had been circulating in the community prior to the incident that led to charges.
Roberts faces potential sentences of up to 10 years for the statutory rape conviction and up to seven years for the indecent behavior charge. The case proceeded to trial despite Roberts' legal team reportedly attempting to exclude evidence related to prior rumors and other matters from court proceedings.
The conviction comes amid additional legal troubles for the Roberts family. Brandon Lee Roberts, 39, identified as the former mayor's brother, faces separate accusations of rape and assault involving a teenage girl and young woman over several years, according to local media reports.
Roberts served as mayor at the time of the July 2024 incident. Sentencing details have not yet been announced.
